The Howard Johnson's was on Route 17 for many years. The building was last occupied as a Hooter's restaurant before it closed and was demolished.
This fine restaurant was located off Route 17 just south of the current Barnes & Noble store. It closed in the 1950's.
Prior to electric hair clippers, this was the type of hair clipper used by barbers to trim hair for haircuts.
This 1951 Cadillac ambulance was donated by the Paramus Rotary Club. It replaced a 1936 LaSalle ambulance that was purchased for $650 from the Closter Ambulance Corp and went into service in June 1950 when the ambulance corp. was organized. Established in 1933, the Orange Lantern is one of the oldest bar/food establishments in Paramus. They have been serving classic American food from Burgers and Sandwiches to Pizza for 87 years at their location on Firehouse Lane.
The Arcola Amusement Park was built in the early 1920's along the Paramus/Rochelle Park border when the area was still know as Midland Township. The park burned down in 1929.
The Old Salt Restaurant, established in 1946, was one of over 25 restaurants in Paramus. They also had one in Englewood Cliffs. The restaurant was closed and is presently the site of Paramus Honda on Route 4 near Garden State Plaza.
Do you remember Channel and Rickel's? Look closely. Recognize the building? The building still remains on Rout 17 South and is currently the Barnes & Noble Book Store.
Remember back in 1958 when Bergen Mall (now named Bergen Town Center) had a kiddie land area on the south side in front of Stern's Department Store.
